Tarry Town Ball

Welcome to the RSRPD November Colonial Dance
Tarry Town Ball

November 3, 2017
"...a small market town or rural port, which by some is called Greensburgh, but which is more generally and properly known by the name of Tarry Town. This name was given, we are told, in former days, by the good housewives of the adjacent country, from the inveterate propensity of their husbands to linger about the village tavern on market days."
Washington Irving, The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Our Tarry Town Ball will feature popular eighteenth-century dances such as "country dances" and cotillions.

Frequently Anticipated Questions:
1. "Tarry Town" is from "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow", so is this a Halloween dance?
TW: No; the theme of this dance comes from the "non-Halloween" aspects of the story; the colors, the shadows, and the hint of cold in the air that is Autumn.
2. Do I have to wear a costume?
TW: No, costumes are not required.  That being said, some of our dancers like to come in period attire but it is understood by all that costumes are optional.

Location - our Tarry Town Ball will be held at the Rancho Santa Susana Community Center, 5005 - C Los Angeles Avenue, Simi Valley, CA.  Note that this is the same building as our monthly Colonial Dances and our Waltz and Polka Practices (the building across the street from the Metrolink station).
Tarry Town Ball / Colonial Social Dancing is offered by the Rancho Simi Recreation and Park District.  For more information, call the RSRPD at (805) 584-4456.
